Proposed Rules

This is an official notification to all Mississippi-registered architects of important proposed rule changes.  The Mississippi State Board of Architecture (MSBOA) recently adopted revised rules that were filed with the Mississippi Secretary of State on May 7, 2026. The rules have also been filed as temporary rules with an effective date of July 1, 2026.

Please review the proposed rules, which will amend Rules 3.2.1, 3.2.2, 3.2.3, 3.2.12, and 5.9 to bring the rules into compliance with Miss. Code Ann. § 73-1-19, as amended by House Bill 346 (2026 Regular Session). The changes to the statute, which will take effect on July 1, 2026, allow landscape architects to have up to one-third (1/3) ownership interest in a firm offering architectural services and remove restrictions on corporate practice (business corporations and LLCs) by architects. Rule 5.9 is also being amended to clarify that disciplinary penalties may only be imposed upon a finding of guilt by a majority of the Board.

The changes to Miss. Code Ann. § 73-1-19 and the associated rule changes will bring Mississippi into alignment with most of the country and remove unnecessary barriers to multi-disciplinary practice.

The Board invites your comments or questions regarding the proposed rules.  Send them by email to jcothron@msboa.ms.gov (or by postal mail to the Board office) by June 12, 2026.
